Oh, my gosh, what an adventure, Eleanor! I would never have been able to switch my itinerary mid-trip (I have a lot of travel anxiety and need to have all the details Locked Down), but kudos to you for doing it! I love your cobalt blue toque and the new Anne Fontaine shirt!
What a relief to get your bag back! ๐
Thanks so much for letting us travel vicariously with youโฆand also for this ginormous newsletter. I know how much work this is.
I love this whole travelogue, thank you for taking us along for the ride (getting tour bag returned feels fairytale-like). All your outfits looked just right for exploring but with lots of personality!
Another book rec: Lauren Markhamโs Immemorial was a very good (imo) entry in the genre of โnoodling around about how memorials and monuments get designedโ
Itโs been so long since Iโve done any travelling but I loved living vicariously through this travel diary! Copenhagen and Berlin are two of my favourite cities and I canโt wait to go back someday.
Loved reading this in its entirety especially since we're heading out for our first international trip as a family this weekend (to Japan and Malaysia)! And I just got some Salomon's as well to tackle all those steps we'll be taking while we're there.
Iโm so relieved your bag was returned!!! Thanks for sharing your experience w us - hearing how you and your husband negotiated one anotherโs needs and desires and pivoting cities reminds me of my own marriage and how that kind of considered communication is what has helped us stay married for 22 years.
Now THIS is the kind of travel posts I love. The attention to detail!! The packing list!! The pictures!! Also so relatable the buying of things that you definitely didnโt need because TRAVEL.
Eleanor, I have to start at the end because I canโt believe you left your passport in Berlin AND had it safely returned to you! But back to the trip; I am very impressed by your โrolling with the punchesโ because that is the harsh reality of travel. Iโm shook you didnโt like Hart bakery but, perhaps, itโs just because I love a sweet breakfast.
Nowโฆ tell me how the Salomonโs fit! I need details for a friend ๐
lol to be clear I did like Hart Bakery!! I just think that first thing in the morning I need my oatmeal (which I like to add almond butter, greek yogurt, berries, and jam to) or else I feel off for the rest of the day. I am normally a 9 in shoes, sometimes an 8.5, and I'm wearing what translates to a women's 8.5 in the US. (The EUR size is "40 2/3")
I love reading packing/travel shakedowns (Iโm usually way too lazy to document fully!) i havenโt visited copenhagen or berlin yet & theyโre near the top of the list. losing passport is a nightmare of mine so Iโm glad it went smoothly!
Wow if this isnโt case for cobalt blue!!!!!! ๐๐๐๐
I think itโs officially my favorite color
Can't say it hasn't been on my mind lately -- it's especially striking for winter!

You are a better traveler than I! I would not have dealt well with all the changes. Love hearing all the trip details!

omg youโre so right, I read that this summer and that must have primed me to think about that stuff while I was thereโฆ how did I not remember ๐

Color story, inspiring. Play by play, enchanting. The ending, miraculous. Loved this, and so glad your trip was such a wonderful adventure!
Thanks, Emmy!

22 years!! If it reminds you of your own communication that bodes well for my marriage :)

Thank you!! I love these kind of posts too--I want to feel like I'm *on the trip* with someone... glad you enjoyed

I have a German, not French chore coat from Episode, too! Mine is from an Amsterdam shop! ๐
amazing!
I love a travel roundup, thank you!! I got a rhubarb trifle at Mad & Kaffe two summers ago that still haunts my dreams
I don't even like scrambled eggs and I'm still thinking about the ones I had there..

Iโm so impressed by your worn to not worn packing ratio
I'm impressed by how little you managed to pack and make work for your own trip!
