copy+paste is a new series—an attempt to either digitally or physically recreate an outfit I saw and admired IRL. I love seeing street style photos, but ethically, I feel uncomfortable including my iPhone creep shots in a public newsletter unless I’ve explicitly asked someone for permission to share. So the actual photo will remain on my phone, but you will still be able to share in the essence and hopefully appreciate the outfit as much as I did!
This person was sitting on the subway, reading something on their phone and wearing very big over-ear headphones (which I did not try to find secondhand.) If they had glanced up, I might have quickly complimented the outfit, but the headphones would have probably dragged out any interaction longer than necessary so I just admired quietly.
Below are the key elements of the outfit: an untucked crisp white embroidered button-up, striped denim bellbottoms with a frayed hem, a red tie, knotted Avril-style, a cropped suede barn jacket with a sherpa collar, and red cowboy boots.
Some secondhand options for each element below:
And… my own attempt at recreation—I did the best with what I had. I had a pair of ugly pants (à la
) but the silhouette was different, so I added a slightly more feminine blouse than the initial inspiration. No tie, but a scarf seemed like a decent substitute, and brought in a little of the same Americana energy as the cowboy boots. I actually like the slouchy jacket rather than something more structured and boxy with these pants. The biggest issue is (very obviously) the shoes. I don’t have cowboy boots in any color, so I added some red shoes that definitely changed the initial vibe, but again, I think they work with these pants. Will I wear this exact outfit? Probably not. Was it useful in adding some new potential pairings to the rotation? Probably! As always, if you buy one of the items in the newsletter—send pics!

I love this series. I often see someone’s outfit and then think of ways to recreate it. It’s the best way to be inspired. Thank you for sharing
I love this!!!
