copy+paste is a series of attempts to either digitally or physically recreate an outfit I saw and admired IRL. (You can find all installments here.) I love seeing street style photos, but ethically, I feel uncomfortable including my iPhone creep shots in a public newsletter unless I’ve explicitly asked someone for permission to share. So the actual photo will remain on my phone, but you will still be able to share in the essence and hopefully appreciate the outfit as much as I did!
She was crossing Fulton with purpose, on a day so sunny it felt like both a warning and a promise for the summer months ahead. A faded navy baseball cap was doing its best to keep the sun at bay. Her long-sleeved white button-up, slim yet breezy, trimmed with eyelet on the front and the sleeves, was not tucked in (key!) to her long denim shorts—a polarizing silhouette that looked effortless here. On her feet were those simple ballet/mary jane mashups I’ve been seeing everywhere, unadorned save for a thin strap across the foot. The finishing touch was a tote bag from a bookstore in another neighborhood. Somehow, this dirty canvas bag made the outfit. It felt intentional, and not nearly as ubiquitous as a New Yorker tote. I could sub in faded loose jeans for shorts and retain the same vibe, but I think I need the shoes to be able to fully recreate this outfit! Maybe those will be a June purchase? Excuse me while I fall down the Google rabbit hole of various permutations of “black leather mary jane ballet flat minimal”…
