Okay, but how about New Year's Eve 2024?

I'm only sort of kidding.

I spent New Year’s Eve 1999 at a neighbor’s house, climbing trees in their front yard with the rest of the neighborhood kids. My friend and I had carefully coordinated our outfits—different colors of the same GAP glitter snowflake t-shirt and velvet pants. New Year’s Eve 2024 will be a quarter-century removed from that evening (!!), and I think it would be a fitting occasion (as Gen Z has been telling us for years) to lean into the *y2k* aesthetic. But I don’t mean low-rise jeans and butterfly clips. I mean literally wearing garments with the year 2000 emblazoned on them in sequins.
