Rabbit Fur Coat state of the union

I had no agenda (or audience) when I started Rabbit Fur Coat late last year, just a desire to reactivate my dormant writing life and create a place where I could talk about secondhand clothing and style through the lens of some of my various obsessions (The Sound of Music, basketball, Selling Sunset, quilting, to name a few). I’m amazed that over a thousand of you are now along for the ride!

I’ll make this quick (said the woman who wrote over 2,000 words on Selling Sunset earlier this month)—I’m adding a paid tier to Rabbit Fur Coat, and it’s completely voluntary. Everything will remain free, but you now have the option to upgrade to a paid monthly or yearly subscription if you want to support me that way.

One of my favorite things about this is the community of people who engage with and respond to my work. Paywalls cut that off. Also, there are so many talented writers on here, and I can’t afford to opt into a paid subscription for everyone whose work I enjoy—I’m sure many of you feel the same way!

At the same time, I respect the work and time that goes into writing and passion projects, and would love to feel more comfortable devoting the time that I do to Rabbit Fur Coat. (I’d also love to be able to throw some of that money to other Substackers!) Some people (even those who don’t know me IRL!) have also pledged monetary support, and I want to honor that commitment.

So, if you have learned something from Rabbit Fur Coat, if you have found yourself shopping or thinking differently about your clothing, AND your budget allows, I would be honored to have you as a paid subscriber. And if that’s not something you can swing right now, I’m also equally as honored to have you as a free subscriber. :)

I promise there will be a heads up if anything changes. And as a thank you for anyone who decides to upgrade to the paid tier, I’m offering to create a shoppable secondhand capsule (for a season, occasion, specific item) in your sizes and with your specifications / budget in mind.
