what I bought (and wanted!) in September
eBay, merch, and Other People’s Clothes
Two of the items I bought this month are things I mentioned wanting in an earlier monthly post and refrained from buying at the time. Will this teach me some self-control, or will it teach me to just go for it the first time? Time will tell!
Before I share the things I bought with you… here are all the things I wanted to get:

Sown Again t-shirt: My husband bought a few of these for himself and the collar is perfect: thick and structured, close to the neck. I might end up borrowing one of his to ‘test it out’ before getting one in my size.
Chloe bandana-print shirt on the RealReal: I was hoping this would drop under $100, but someone bought it before I could. Maybe it will end up back on the RealReal at some point in the future!
Golden Goose skirt: If you give a mouse a cookie (make a mouse aware of the existence of a silk bandana-print shirt), he’s going to want a glass of milk (look at a Vogue article about bandana-print and find something else to want). In this case, the mouse (me) was drawn to this Golden Goose silk skirt also featured in that article—it’s not something I’d usually wear, but it was really speaking to me. The only used one I could find online was one that had already sold for $56 on Vestiaire Collective.
Adidas Tokyo sneaker: Still searching for a low-rise sneaker, but I don’t need another pair of sneakers right now, and I have my weird Adidas ballet/sneaker hybrids. That will have to do for another couple years!
Intentionally Blank sandals: My friend Kara bought a couple shoes from Shoe Market in Williamsburg for incredibly low prices during their Labor Day weekend sale. These were on sale for my size for less than $50, but I waited it out (read reviews on several different websites, questioned how comfortable the straps would actually be, asked if I would still want them if they were full-price) and resisted. Glad I didn’t get them!
Vintage railroad stripe overalls: I already own the platonic ideal of these (an old GAP pair from a vintage store on the Lower East Side) but they are no longer as oversized as I’d like—if I could find the same pair in a size up, they’d be perfect. I’ll hold onto my old pair until I find a suitable replacement.
Shrunken blazer: The most vague item on this list. I will always be Team Oversized but I think I’d like to try one of those blazers that are cropped and fitted and lightweight enough to wear as a shirt. (If money were no object, something like this…) Looking out for an affordable secondhand version!
As for what I did buy…

Agolde white jeans via the RealReal: You’ve already seen these on! I knew I liked this style and sized up a couple sizes so they would be properly slouchy.
Silk noil bomber jacket from Other People’s Clothes: Continuing to explore secondhand shopping in NYC—went to the new location of OPC and found the selection better than Beacon’s Closet (less J. Crew Factory, more weird 90s thrift store brands like this one). I always forget that silk can feel like this (nubby, scratchy, weighty)—I love it. Have already worn multiple times.
Carla Colour sunglasses: Years ago, my husband got me a free pair of Carla Colour sunglasses that fit me like no sunglasses have ever fit before. Strangers would compliment me on how well they suited my face. My dog got ahold of them in his puppy days and destroyed them, and of course they don’t make that style anymore. (Carla… if you’re reading this and you have any spare Gaka frames I will buy them from you!!!!) The Warsaw frames from Carla Colour are a close enough fit, but they rarely show up secondhand—when I saw them on sale for $70 on Garmentory I went for it.
Hollywood t-shirt via eBay: The one I linked to in this post! I couldn’t stop thinking about it! There’s something about the combination of colors and graphics that makes me feel like a very specific type of Barbie, like I should be living in my Rockers Van and wearing a pink denim jacket with white contrast stitching. Should I have probably bought it as a gift for someone else with a stronger connection to California rather than keeping it for myself? Probably. Oh well!
Wool bomber jacket via eBay: Been thinking about this jacket since March. I looked for it again recently and the listing had disappeared. Through the magic of reverse image search using the screenshot from this post, I found the same jacket from another eBay seller. Fulfilling my Playmobil-core dreams!
Cotton jacket from Other People’s Clothes: I didn’t need one of these, but the non-color color (is it blue? purple? grey? we’ll never know) and the vintage tags inside sold me.
Rilo Kiley t-shirt: Merch! Bought at the Pier 17 show. No regrets, especially because I didn’t even see a merch stand at SummerStage a few days later.
Vagabond shoes via the RealReal: Also Rilo Kiley-related… Jenny Lewis has been wearing a pair of Vagabond heeled mary janes on this tour. A week later, I met up with my friend Emily who was also wearing a pair of Vagabond heeled mary janes, more matte and with a pointier toe. I set an alert for Vagabond shoes on the RealReal, and not even two weeks later, they showed up in my size.
What I’m eyeing for next month… nothing in particular on my list, but I do want to visit a few vintage stores in Copenhagen while I’m there!

Those Gaka sunnies really did fit your face perfectly. Also, the picture is proof your hair has always been amazing.
Come for the style inspo, stay for the Barbie and the Rockers nostalgia!!!
