what I wore 038
wearing statement outerwear for senior citizens
I’m compiling these wintery outfit pics from my childhood home in Florida, knowing I’ll receive little to no sympathy (fair!) for the sadness I’m feeling at missing another New York City snowstorm while I’m away. Hoping that those of you in true wintry climes right now can take some inspiration from these outfits!
I try to provide a secondhand option for every piece of clothing in these posts, whether it’s the exact item or an approximation. You can assume anything I link to is secondhand unless otherwise stated!
Wore this outfit to therapy and to run some errands afterwards. It took me ages to get dressed—I wasn’t satisfied with any combination I put on, and I was about to head out in this outfit with jeans instead of corduroys when I realized the back pocket of said jeans was soaked from my ice pack (yes, I have an ice pack with me most days because I truly am always hot), so I changed. I ended up liking it much better with the corduroys. Wearing Dunst leather jacket (exact one here in a small… insane price because there’s some damage on the back but the back of a garment is not my business! for sizing reference though, I’m wearing a large in this jacket), Uniqlo men’s white t-shirt, Piazza Sempione red sweater vest via the RealReal (similar here), APC scarf via the RealReal (similar APC scarf here), Needles corduroy pants via Grailed (similar Needles pair here), Nike Blazers (exact ones here), and Coach beanie via eBay (similar here).
Long day of work and a writing break midday at the Center for Fiction. I love an all-black look even if it doesn’t photograph well. Wearing a Madewell longsleeve t-shirt (the exact style hasn’t popped up on Poshmark yet and I don’t want to recommend something inferior, but trust that I will link it once I start seeing it on secondhand sites!), Madewell belt (exact one here), Agolde jeans via the RealReal (exact ones here), Bass loafers via eBay (exact ones here), scarf inherited from friend’s mom’s friend (similar scarf from same brand here), borrowed Uniqlo beanie, vintage leather trench (very similar here).
Met up with a group for a friend’s birthday and walked through several galleries of her choosing, ending on a stunning exhibition of Kandy G. Lopez’s fiber paintings. It’s still up through January 17 if you’re in NYC! Wearing HAY tote (similar here), Miami Heat sweatshirt (similar here), GAP pants (exact ones in black here), grey Adidas Taekwondo Mei shoes (exact ones here), and repeats from earlier in the post. Everyone on this outing had on the best outfits! Wish I could have photographed them all.

Accompanied my husband to a screening of a short film he worked on a long time ago that was followed by an unadvertised screening of this movie… an absolutely delightful surprise. Wearing all repeats from earlier in the post, plus a Tod’s bag via eBay (exact style except smaller here). I love this bag, but I feel like I mostly play it safe with the rest of my outfit when I wear it. Next year I’d like to try pairing it with colors other than grey and black!

Drove three hours each way to have lunch with my husband’s elderly relatives (when I say drove, I mean he drove) and I thought they’d appreciate the fur coat. (I was right!) I should have worn warmer shoes but I liked the way these looked with the rest of the outfit. Wore a Uniqlo sweater (similar here), J. Crew skirt purchased secondhand (exact one here in an 8), Everlane mary janes (exact ones here), thrifted faux fur coat (almost the exact same one here) and same scarf and hat as before.
Yes, we can address the elephant in the photo… I did get an unintentionally severe bang trim!!! I know I’ll like them again in a few weeks, but it was an adjustment. This was about six hours post-trim. Wore this outfit to dinner with friends at Entre Nous, a relatively new restaurant close to us. All repeat from earlier in the post except for the pants, which are wool Armani trousers via the RealReal (similar here).
Another therapy outfit… I’ve got tights on under my jeans here because it was quite cold! Wearing hand-me-down Loeffler Randall boots (same ones here), M. Patmos wool beanie (similar style beanie, different color here), and Rag & Bone wool scarf via the RealReal (similar style but in a lighter teal here). I love these boots, but I think they work best paired with a non-black bottom—the white soles look too dingy in contrast here.
If you missed the previous installments of weekly outfit posts, you can find them here!

Happy New Year, Eleanor! I love your mink coat, and I'm a senior citizen (the discounts start at 55 at our local drugstore, which was quite a surprise!), lol.
I've given myself many poor bang trims with scissors and scotch tape (I do not recommend this - I was young and drunk). Thank goodness hair grows out!
Ok Margot Tenenbaum fur coat! (Doesn’t quite roll off the tongue like RFC)
