It turns out that when you’re very passionate about something, people enjoy it, even if it’s a bit of a departure from your usual material. Hello to any basketball fans who subscribed after this post! I’ve even had a request for an analysis of Nicola Jokić’s tunnel fits, but I’m going to start with what I promised first—an attempt at recreating a specific outfit from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
I’m classifying this as a copy+paste, though it’s a bit different from the usual structure. For those who are new, copy+paste is a series of attempts to either digitally or physically recreate an outfit I saw and admired IRL. (Here’s 01, 02, and 03.) I love seeing street style photos, but ethically, I feel uncomfortable including my iPhone creep shots in a public newsletter unless I’ve explicitly asked someone for permission to share. However, this is not a creep shot, and the subject of the photo is a public figure, so I think including the photo is fair game here! Here’s the outfit in question:
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is wearing a pink shirt/jacket (I just can’t bring myself to use the word “shacket,” but I think that’s what this is), a crisp white crewneck tee, khaki parachute cargo pants, and tan and white sneakers. The shirt is by Martine Rose—I zoomed in on the label and Googled to confirm my suspicions. It’s a shimmery, waxy material, structured but not stiff. The pants remind me of my Needles HD BDU cargo pants, but the lines are cleaner, and again, there’s a shape and a structure to the fabric that gives it more weight—the pants seem to be made of a thick cotton canvas. I couldn't figure out the designer of the pants (even GQ didn’t ID). The shoes are almost certainly these Dior x Cactus Jack sneakers.
I know the idea of ‘quiet luxury’ has been discussed ad nauseam both here and elsewhere, but to me, the real quiet luxury is a bright white tee, which requires a dedication to sorting colors and whites and a considerable amount of bleach or an unending supply of fresh t-shirts. Honestly, I even like the untied shoe. As someone who is perpetually running around the city with shoelaces dragging on the ground (yes, I know, I’ll fix it in a minute) there’s also an element of luxury in a trailing shoelace, in knowing you won’t be walking far enough for that to matter anyways.
Some secondhand options for each element below:
I thought I’d be able to pull together a recreation with my Needles pants, but the pink shirt is the star of the show here, especially the color, and I just have nothing that comes close. I’m keeping those secondhand options in my likes, though, because this is a perfect transitional weather outfit for a brisk spring day!
As always, if you buy one of the items in the newsletter—send pics!

Incredible writing that you’ve somehow got me considering a hot pink suede shirt as a reasonable investment??? but my god, this outfit is phenomenal, though I might like the color coordination of hat-bag-shirt happening in the second outfit even more? Know less than nothing about sports but I can appreciate a fit and I have looked at multiple tunnel fit slideshows - would so be down for that coverage here hahah!
He looks amazing in this colour. Agree ‘shacket’ shouldn’t happen 😄
