copy+paste is a series of attempts to either digitally or physically recreate an outfit I saw and admired IRL. (You can find all installments here.) I love seeing street style photos, but ethically, I feel uncomfortable including my iPhone creep shots in a public newsletter unless I’ve explicitly asked someone for permission to share. So the actual photo will remain on my phone, but you will still be able to share in the essence and hopefully appreciate the outfit as much as I did!
Every item this woman was wearing was the sharpest, coolest iteration of itself. Her shirt looked like an updated version of those Urban Outfitters ‘Urban Renewal’ tops we went crazy for in the mid-2000s, made from various pieces of different t-shirts serged together. Her shorts were loose but tailored, and looked like a thin, high-quality wool. And a dainty lettuce-hem sock in the palest of purples provided the perfect foil to her sneakers, also in lavender. She carried no bag, which only added to her aura (just ask )—she wasn’t risking misshapen pockets or sagging shorts for something as prosaic as the wallet-keys-phone trifecta. Where was she going? We’ll never know!
Some secondhand options for each element below:

As someone who would possibly die of heat exhaustion if I wore even the thinnest of tropical wool fabrications before October, all I could do at the moment was admire. But I did indulge in some delayed gratification inspiration—hopefully I can revisit this outfit once the fall is actually here. I don’t own wool shorts (if it’s hot enough for shorts, it’s definitely too hot for wool), but I do own some nice wool trousers, so I started with those as my base. I added my weird Adidas ballet sneakers and a graphic t-shirt (sans the Urban Renewal je ne sais quois). I bought these pants as part of a suit and I forget that I can also wear them on their own. These Adidas shoes actually pair well with them—they take the pants down a notch in formality and add some edge. Not bad!

“I bought these pants as part of a suit and I forget that I can also wear them on their own” is too relatable
