“my decisions merit some interesting questions” - lol!
I really appreciated this post because I think we’ve all come to see influencer’s very ~interior design~ closet set-ups, and I hadn’t really realized how this affected my psyche until now. Making a space work is super normal. Thanks for the peek into yours!
I’d love to do a study on women’s closets and the stories they tell, especially with regards to sizing and body image.
Eleanor, I love the inclusion of the American girl doll! I had a Samantha doll as a child and still remember the excitement of receiving her for Christmas, I honestly think it’s the best Christmas gift I’ve ever gotten, still. I remember riding around with her in my bike basket to show friends on Christmas day. I asked for clothes and accessories for her every birthday and Christmas which I cherished so much and played with so carefully. I still have the whole collection and thought I’d give it to my daughters one day. Last time I was home at my parents I got some of it out to let my daughters play with it but felt weirdly uncomfortable about the whole thing! They just treated the doll and clothes like any other toy and I somehow couldn’t express to them how special she had been to me, and how much care I wanted them to take with her. I remember my mum having this china doll from her childhood that she would never let us play with - I guess it was kind of like that. Anyway, living in London now nobody knows what an American girl “means” and I feel even for children now it’s probably not as special as it was in our youth when there were limited dolls to choose from. I think it’s so sweet of your mom that she got you one.
Fellow Samantha girl here! Lucy, your memories of your doll are so sweet and I felt the same way about her getting thrashed about by my kiddos. Eleanor, it’s adorable that your mom got you a doll all those years later.
Thanks so much for the shout out, Eleanor! That is immensely sweet of you.💕
I absolutely love getting into peoples closets, and this was a treat. Like you I like seeing how people’s minds work and how they organize. One of my friends allowed me to pull our closet apart and put it all back together again and it was just amazing. She now does a seasonal swap over like I do.
I don’t get the American doll thing, I’m either too old or too Canadian 😆. Or both..
I’m blessed/cursed to have a full bedroom-sized 12x12 dressing room/closet! I have three ikea garment racks & one industrial garment rack, two large vintage lowboy dressers, and a 1940s heywood wakefield vanity, and every rack & drawer is bursting at the seams 🙈 this room also has a small closet where I store shoes I need to get rid of & very off-season items I rotate when necessary.
If we downsize like we are planning (either a move to boston or eu early next year) I will have to do some intense purging, and as a vintage collector/seller this is super hard!
I'm obsessed with closets! I share my bedroom with my husband but it's a decent size. I also have another closet where I keep out of season clothes and dressier things that don't get as much wear, among other, non-clothing items. I keep my shoes on shelves, and some in a shoebag on the back of the door (I've got a lot of shoes!). I also have two dressers, one where I store socks, underwear, PJs, athletic wear and jeans/pants. The other dresser is for t-shirts, tank tops, sweaters and leggings. In my current house, all pants are folded in the dresser, never hung, but I have a more casual lifestyle now and my wardrobe reflects that.
I hang clothes in my closets by type: sleeveless tops, followed by short sleeves, long sleeves, jackets, etc. A few years ago I bought some dividers that fit on the rods, and I enjoy them immensely, even if it looks a bit like a shop in there.
If I go to a stylish friend's house, I usually ask to look in their closet. My sister recently asked me to help organize her closet with her and I'm psyched to get started. I've got an entire Pinterest board devoted to closets and clothing storage. It's been a lifelong interest of mine. I love clothing and I love organization, so closets cover all the bases.
Anyway, loved this post... thank you for letting us have a peek at your wardrobe!
1) I want to know which American Girl Doll! Core collection or a doll that looks like you? I was a Felicity girl.
2) My closet is organized by color and then type of item (i.e., Dresses -> skirts -> pants -> blazers -> long sleeved tops -> short sleeved tops). My tshirts are folded vertically a la Marie Kondo and also organized by color. My shoes are constantly in a mess on the floor. 🫠

Thank you!! I love home tours but it does make me wonder “okay but where are you putting all the STUFF?”

I love helping friends organize like that!

Yessss Laura thank you for leaving this comment! This is the level of detail I crave. Getting dividers is such a good idea!
This was so fun! I adore taking a peek into other people’s closets. Thank you for sharing ❤️
You’re welcome!
OMG Magic Attic Club!!!! Was trying to remember this the other day and could not!!
Were you also a Magic Attic Club member? Lol
LOL I was but I also had an American Girl doll!

She sent me Samantha, which is probably who I would have picked at that age, although #justicefornellie, she deserved to be a doll, too!
