I greatly appreciate your attention to the important nuance of a slightly cropped length… I would rather create a whole new outfit than wear a button down that is slightly too long at the waist
This post made me realise I should take an inch off my short-sleeved shirt. I've worn it happily for years but I've always wished it was slightly shorter and now I am persuaded.
This is great advice! We moved to the Space Coast of Florida two years ago and I have yet to find a consistent, comfortable beach outfit. Definitely going to try at least some of these items out for myself.
I’m pondering sandals, and will borrow one of my husband’s many baseball caps for now 🙃 Your sandals discussion reinforced to me that I generally dislike flip-flops in any situation. Glad there’s another option!
So two years ago, I realized that the Everlane dress version of this camp shirt is my perfect beach “shirt”. It’s way too short on me as a dress in real life but perfect on the beach and I also wear it open as a long shirt/jacket year round over jeans. Mine is black though, a lighter color would make it even better!
I am so glad to have found someone who feels simpatico about the beach. I like the beach after 6 pm when everyone else has gone home and the sun has moved from broiling to warming. Also this is truly the best beach outfit recommendation I have ever seen. I want to wear this every this summer day when I’m not wearing my beloved skorts.
This is very similar to my own beach/water formula~! I agree linen shorts and a unbuttoned short sleeve are such a good combo over a swimsuit. They dry so fast.
It's just warming up here in Seattle so it'll be a bit before I can break these out lol
Such a great formula! I live very far from any (real) beaches, but will definitely be rocking some version of this when I take my kid to the splash pad this summer. I have a Youswim one piece and love wearing it as a top with long inseam shorts.
I just bought a pair of EVA Arizona Birks for my upcoming trip to Southern California. I agree that the fit is far superior to flip flops. I also like them for gardening.
youswim suits are my faaaavorite!! and ive purchased all mine secondhand too!! so comfy i even wear them under sheer skirts/dresses when im not swimming
OBSESSED. I love everything about this. The outfit formula and examples of its iterations and the good advice about brands, etc. I haven’t tried YouSwim but I’ve owned two Hunza G (bought second hand 🤫) and they were amazing. Sadly for me, my nipples are really prominent post breastfeeding and I don’t love the lack of protection against them haha. This post has me questioning my own thoughts though because the suits you pulled are CAAAute!
Loved this so much! Now that my toddler is 17 months old and can comfortably walk, I see us going to the beach more often than we did last year. I have a hard time with shorts, so I'm thinking an oversized button down. I also have 3 YouSwim swimsuits but since I have a long torso, I've always felt like they don't quite provide enough coverage. And my EVA sandals are lavender.

Yay! Let me know what you get! I just bought a t-shirt from Kennedy space center on eBay … still remember taking a field trip there

Love that you found your version! I saw a lot of those on eBay and Poshmark while I was looking if you need a lighter color …

Yay! Glad you like it (and yes, a sunset beach is the best type of beach… less worrying about sunscreen too!)

Co-sign all of this though I go light chambray or cotton button down so I don’t have to be as good about sunscreen reapplication on my arms
Yes!! The sunscreen application is such a pain… can’t believe AI arrived before the sunscreen pill

Wow brilliant idk why I didn’t think of that!
I saw a person wearing the tank version of the lime green under white overalls and it’s burned in my brain forever!! So chic
ooooo love!! i wear mine under overalls too but that tank version would be sooo good

Solid advice/formula, and I can put so much of this together from things I already own for the lake this weekend!
Perfect!
Getting ready for a trip to Charleston and this was helpful! Love your secondhand options as always.
Glad it was helpful!

you wouldn’t believe my excitement at being mentioned in a footnote!!!
