These outfits are from some quieter moments at the end of November and early December. After this past week of houseguests, cramming in extra sessions with my clients before the holidays, and multiple nine-hour days of driving, I’m happy to be with family in Florida and hoping for some quiet moments again. Florida outfit pics in the next installation!
I try to provide a secondhand option for every piece of clothing in these posts, whether it’s the exact item or an approximation. You can assume anything I link to is secondhand unless otherwise stated!
The top row of outfits (days 1-4) were all worn while staying with my in-laws for Thanksgiving. I packed a relatively small capsule (for a stay of slightly over a week) and I was pretty happy with how I used all of them.
I wore this outfit on the way there—the fur coat really glams up the New Jersey Turnpike! I’m wearing a Zara scarf (really cute blue-forward similar option here) from 2013. I had just started working at a publishing company in Midtown and would wander Fifth Avenue during my lunch breaks. This was probably one of the best lunch break purchases I made. This scarf has lived in five different apartments with me! Also wearing Coach beanie via eBay (exact one here), thrifted faux fur coat (similar here), Agolde jeans from Rent the Runway (secondhand here in a 32 for too much money, and brand new here in a 26 for under $100!), and Sam Edelman boots (so many of the exact same ones here).
Same scarf and boots, red cashmere sweater thrifted in 2014-ish (similar here), W’menswear pants (somewhat similar alternatives here and here and here), Dunst leather jacket (similar style in brown here).
This was a particularly chilly day and I was happy to get a chance to see how this turtleneck looks layered under a sweatshirt. Thumbs up from me. Wearing the same scarf, jacket, and boots, my husband’s beanie, vintage sweatshirt from Etsy (similar here), MUJI striped turtleneck (exact one here), DL1961 jeans via Rent the Runway (non-cropped version here in a 25; cropped version in lighter color here in 30 and 31). Those pants run super big in my opinion—would go at least one, if not two sizes down from your usual.
Wrapping up Thanksgiving ‘break’ in New Jersey with more of the same—eating leftovers, playing with the nieces, running around with the dog. Same jeans, boots, and MUJI turtleneck as before, thrifted black braided leather belt (similar here), Uniqlo navy flannel shirt (exact one here).
Went to see Who? Weekly at Town Hall—with the friend I met because I was wearing some of their merch! I decided I needed another baseball cap (the ‘always get the t-shirt’ philosophy), so I got this one. Wearing the same fur coat, jeans, and boots from earlier, a rented Staud purse (similar here), TSE cashmere sweater via the RealReal (similar here), Everlane beanie (similar here), pink Acne scarf via the RealReal (same one here).
Went to the Nicelle Beauchene Gallery with my friend Camille to see some more quilts from the Gee’s Bend quilters—this is the third and final installation of their work at this gallery. It closes on January 4th—if you’re in New York you should absolutely go! This outfit feels very Margot Tenenbaum if the Tenenbaums were into basketball instead of tennis. Same fur coat, scarf, and hat as before, Bass loafers (same ones here) Madewell skirt from 2012 or 2013 (same one here in a 4 and a 0), vintage Miami Heat sweatshirt (similar here). Would have been better with burgundy tights but I couldn’t find ‘em in the moment!
I was texting Lexie about this skirt earlier in the day because I really have trouble styling it. It’s a Cordera wool and cashmere skirt with a drawstring waist that I bought on super sale last year for a trip to Norway. I wore it while I was there, but I’ve really had trouble styling it since then. Lexie suggested "Copenhagen street style” on Pinterest, and unfortunately she was right—that’s where all the inspiration is for something like this. Wearing the leather jacket and boots again, the Cordera skirt (sort of similar but not as nice here), a tan wool Acne scarf (exact one here), husband’s beanie, and a black long-sleeve shirt from Comfort Colors that my husband handed down to me after they sent him the wrong size. This is a solid outfit, but I feel like I could really do something cool with this skirt. What am I missing? Any styling ideas you have?
Normal day of working from home and errands! (And walking the dog… if you couldn’t tell by the leash in my hand lol.) Same jeans, scarf, and boots from earlier, Tibi coat bought from Rent the Runway for $70 (similar vibe here, similar Tibi jacket here), COS cashmere beanie (very similar here), old striped Uniqlo boatneck (exact one here).
Yes… this is another rugby shirt! More on that soon. This picture was taken a day or two before I drove down to Florida for the holidays. I knew I wasn’t packing any of these things except the leather jacket so it felt “safe” to wear them. Wearing the beanie, leather jacket, and boots again, a Uniqlo ultra light down jacket from ages ago (so many available here), Muji corduroy pants (similar here), and my new (via eBay) GAP rugby shirt (literally the exact same one here for $12 and another option on Grailed that I will not even link because it is listed for $90!)
If you missed the previous installments of weekly outfit posts, you can find them here!
That Zara scarf though!!
I really like the cordera skirt! For me it gives off a lagenlook vibe, so you could lean into that or contrast it more. I would wear it with a chunky knit, combat style boots and a silly bag.
