There’s only one outfit in this round-up from a quick trip back home to Florida—the details of that trip aren’t mine to share. But, as I shared in response to Rachel’s recent piece on joy, I am so grateful that fashion is a language I speak with my best friends. I’m grateful that this part of our lives doesn’t have to be siloed away from grief and loss, that it’s not taboo to text about what we’re wearing to a funeral, that our interest in style and clothing serves not only as distraction but as a source of connection, even joy. ❤️
I try to provide a secondhand option for every piece of clothing in these posts, whether it’s the exact item or an approximation. You can assume anything I link to is secondhand unless otherwise stated!
Met a friend for a late night tea (good) and cream puff (mediocre). This dress is a rental—it’s Ann Mashburn, a brand I’d heard a lot about but hadn’t yet tried. I can tell it’s high-quality wool, and it’s well-made, but something about the way it draped on my body I just wasn’t wild about. I think if it hadn’t had pockets, the silhouette would have worked better. Similar dress here. Also wearing thrifted faux fur coat (similar here), tan Acne scarf via the RealReal (same one here), cashmere COS beanie (similar here), and Sam Edelman boots (same ones here).
This was my famously good hair day—I had nowhere to go and no one to see in this outfit! Wearing thrifted Ralph Lauren striped shirt (almost the same one here), Garnet Hill sweater vest via eBay (similar vibe here in mens XXL and here in M), DL1961 jeans (exact ones with longer inseam here in a 25 and a 27), and Nike Blazers (so many here).
Went for a double date with my lovely sister-in-law and her husband! We ordered panna cotta and tiramisu for dessert, and I decided it was finally time for me to make panna cotta at home. I ended up making it several different times, and it’s actually quite easy! My best one was adapted from this Food & Wine panna cotta recipe and I layered a passionfruit gelée on top… felt like I was on the Great British Bake-Off. Wearing rented Sandro sweater (similar vibe here with brown instead of red, similar half-zip in men’s L here), GAP barrel jeans (here in a lighter shade in a 14T, and here in a medium wash in a 27P), and Sam Edelman boots again.
Just another day of work. Wearing a Tibi coat purchased from Rent the Runway (exact one here on Canadian Poshmark), Levi’s x Karla western shirt (very similar here), Madewell belt (similar vintage one here), DL1961 jeans and Sam Edelman boots again.
Brief sojourn back in Florida (sorry for the smudges on the mirror). Wearing a Reformation tank top (exact one here) that my mom bought me in December after realizing she had store credit there that she wasn’t going to spend. Thanks, Mom! I love this shirt and it also ended up with weird bleached (?) brown stains on it after only one wear—welcoming any ideas for how to re-dye or fix. Also wearing Agolde jeans (here in a different wash) and Everlane ballet flats (many colors and sizes here). I find it so much easier to wear these shoes while I’m not in New York—they feel too delicate for my day to day life.
Went to see Diana Ross at Kings Theatre with Lily!!! Wearing a thrifted rabbit fur vest (read more about it here), an old All Saints Leather jacket that I got for Christmas in 2014ish (similar style here), GAP barrel jeans again, Loeffler Randall cowboy boots (short version here in a 9), red Tod’s bag (here in black), AFRM mesh turtleneck (exact one here), and a vintage velvet vest (similar here).

My aunt and uncle were in town for a night and we met them uptown by their hotel for dinner. I chose a Malaysian restaurant I’d never heard of before and it was the best meal out I’ve had in months. Get the pulut panggang, the crispy tofu, and the abacus beads, and thank me later. Wearing the fur vest/leather jacket combo again along with the Sam Edelman boots, Akris dress via the RealReal (exact one here but for $340?!?!, similar one in solid gray here), Cecchi e Cecchi hand-me-down scarf (this is a blanket from the brand that has the same woven pattern), and an Everlane beanie (similar here).
Busy day of work and errands. Wearing Tibi coat and Nike Blazers again, Coach cashmere beanie (similar here), vintage sweatshirt (similar here), and Muji corduroy pants (similar style here). (As you can see here, I’m back on the wired headphone bandwagon. I never had AirPods because they don’t stay in my ears, but I’ve had other wireless headphones and I always lose them. Haven’t lost these yet!)
Another workday! Wearing the Ralph Lauren shirt, Madewell belt, and Agolde jeans again, along with Bass loafers via Poshmark (same style here but with leopard print).
Lily’s friend started working at a fancy new restaurant and they held a mock service for friends and family before officially opening. I knew this thing existed but I don’t have many connections in the food world and this was the first time I’ve ever been invited to this type of event. The thrill of ordering off a menu knowing that no one at the table is paying for the meal is unlike anything I’ve felt before. (Unfortunately, I could get used to it.) Wearing Needles pants (exact ones here), Tibi shirt via the RealReal (the exact one here!), Dunst leather jacket (please refer to
’s insanely comprehensive post about secondhand leather jackets) and Sam Edelman boots and Madewell belt again. Felt very ‘Dickensian orphan but make it fashion’.If you missed the previous installments of weekly outfit posts, you can find them here!
Day 10 look is actually incredible, a masterclass in how to do a distinctive silhouette while keeping it entirely to the realm of 'can be worn to a nice dinner that isn't a fashion dinner' (and the cargos look better on you than on the model in the listing). A little Paul Harnden meets Rick Owens, not a bad vibe at all!
“Dickensian orphan but make it fashion” — I didn’t know how much I needed that ❤️
