This was a covetous month, but I’m okay with that! Many of the things I wanted in June were inspired by friends and people I saw while I was out and about, enjoying being back in New York, spending time in neighborhoods I don’t regularly get to. I’m more at peace with my desires if they stem from exploration and exposure.
Before I share the things I bought with you… here are all the things I wanted to get:
These Tibi pants: Tibi styling is killing it, as per usual, but my favorite thing about these pants is the snaps on the hems so you can cuff them at two different lengths! It’s genius. These are just way out of my budget, but I’ll keep an eye out on the RealReal—would be happy with any of the colors they come in. (Will also be looking out for the similarly voluminous pants from The Row that
found on the RealReal!)This Universal Thread chore jacket was wearing in an outfit selfie she sent me—reminded me of this Acne jacket from several years ago.
Weird Shirts: I’m always looking for Weird Shirts and Weird T-Shirts. (Should I do a post about this category of shirt?) I want something that lands in the middle between office and casual, and the Weird Element seems to bridge the gap (elevates a t-shirt, brings a button-up down a notch). I looked briefly for a secondhand version of this Lemaire twisted shirt, then realized it was a ludicrous pursuit to find an affordable one even secondhand. (My friend Emily also de-influenced me out of further searching for the Lemaire one, which was helpful!)
posted a note about Melissa Munro shirts, and I want to get this particular style once it’s restocked in a size and color that work for me. And Nena Hansen has been a perennial fave—I’ve never bought one because I’ve been uncertain about sizing, but thankfully my friend Emily (who apparently shares a penchant for the Weird Shirt) owns one and was able to send me some photos and measurements! I always miss her story sales/restocks, but I just signed up for her email list. The Opening Ceremony x Kodak shirt that
shared in her post on shuttered brands of the 2010s. I asked for the measurements but the seller never responded! (Ed. note: still thinking about this on July 10, put in an offer… still no response!)Several different pairs of shoes (all very different in style and seasonal relevance): The first pair I coveted were these butter yellow Maryam Nassir Zadeh boots, after seeing a different knee high boot that reminded me of them. I don’t know if they even sell this style anymore—I wouldn’t be able to afford them if they did! I’ve also noticed myself starting to succumb to flip-flop propaganda (feels wild to want a pair of Havaianas again after last coveting this brand roughly around the time John Kerry ran for president). Wanting a pair of Salomons is a sign that I am again firmly embedded in New York City after my time away. (No one is wearing these in Tampa, if you can believe that.) I think these look cool on certain people but I am aware that the only reason I am drawn to them for myself is that I have been worn down by years of exposure to them as a city sneaker for Cool People. I don’t know if I could pull them off and I also don’t want to know!
Everything from Damson Madder: For some reason, this brand—a frilly deviation from my usual taste—is like catnip to me! I think it’s the combo of natural materials and relatively accessible pricing. I don’t have much use for a fancy dress right now (though for any non-black tie wedding, I may revisit!), but I can’t stop thinking about this pink shirt-stripe cotton skirt. I love the functional drawstrings on the body of the skirt!
This Uniqlo jacket I tried on while doing dress recon for a friend: I don’t like the beige but I like the tan. The dark denim version on the website is also calling to me. My only hesitation is that they are 5% spandex—not sure why that was necessary? I really like that they’re unlined, though.
As for what I did buy…
Vintage Florida t-shirts: You may have already seen these in my post from earlier this month (link below), but these eBay finds are the two newest additions to the collection.

A white midi skirt from J. Crew: I saw
post a selfie in the chat in this beautiful skirt—after wearing my black midi skirt nonstop in the heat, I decided I’d make use of a white one, as well. (You can partially see it in the selfie from the Uniqlo dressing room above.) I got it in a tall and I like the extra couple inches it adds to the silhouette. I’m very picky about white cotton (surprise), and most of the white skirts out there right now are too white or crispy for my taste. I think white poplin is a gorgeous fabric for a shirt but a white poplin skirt feels too delicate/flimsy for my wardrobe. The texture of this ramie one is much more fun.Damson Madder skirt: Okay, I went for this skirt because I was afraid it would sell out! It’s a bit more sheer than I expected it to be (and I also saw that it was previously made in blue, which I would have preferred), but I’m still very into the drawstrings and the shape. May need a couple more pairs of underwear that aren’t black!
As for what I’m eyeing for next month… after adding those skirts to the weekly rotation, I’ve felt the need for a tiny crossbody bag to put my phone and keys in while I’m walking the dog. (If you give a mouse a cookie, etc.) The weight of my phone feels like it would pull down my skirt while I’m walking if I put it in a pocket! My dream is a vintage leather Coach crossbody, like this, and I think I could probably find a beat-up one for relatively cheap on eBay. I do have that Uniqlo shoulder bag from a couple summers ago that would probably do the trick—I should try that out first.
you would absolutely rock salomons and im surprised you don’t already own a pair tbh
Skirt sisters!! I’m so glad we are in this club together with Maurene!
That Uniqlo jacket is VERY good. I love the crop element.
PS- I’m going to find a shirt-maker for you that I follow that MAY scratch your weird shirt itch!!
