I do a 30 day no-buy every year (and have for four years now I think)--such a great palate cleanser. I do allow myself one exception and I can use gift cards, however.
You and Lin are killing it with the rugby shirts!! I have two great ancient ones from my parents--one a really fab, really 80s one from Benetton from my mom (similar to this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1583632355/vintage-united-colors-of-benetton-rugby) and one from my dad's college that actually WAS worn for rugby and soccer. Have to pull those out!
I did a 75 day no buy at the start of last year and it was honestly good! I don’t know that it made me buy less overall this year but it definitely made me realize I don’t NEED to buy everything beautiful and lovely I see at the thrift store 😂 love love the purple sweater! Also you & Lin of Out Of The Bag fame may have #influenced me to finally grab a rugby shirt when I was thrifting yesterday - such a perfect weight, planning on getting mine hemmed but otherwise perfect!!
It was also especially good to avoid the INTENSE post-holidays SALE SALE SALE siren calls honestly. The only thing I broke it for was a bra which I do not regret, that store went out of business shortly after and I still miss it!! Hardest thing was I had just started using substack chats and everyone and their mother was selling genuinely cool stuff from cleaning out their closet after doing some gift inventory lol 😂
That rugby shirt is going to look great with the mini skirt, tights, and loafers!
I truly love Poshmark for the ability to replace something I already love! This month I replaced a beloved faux shearling vest that had become too small for me and I feel so smug about it, lol! Pics and my styling are here: https://substack.com/home/post/p-151624747
I went a bit hard with Black Friday so I will be joining you in slowing down - thanks for sharing :)
Yes poshmark has also been great for finding different sizes of things I’ve outgrown or find aren’t fitting me the same way anymore. I had a dress from J Crew that just looked… different… on me one day and I decided it was okay that a dress from 10 years ago didn’t fit the same way! Found it on poshmark in the next size up and donated the too-small one :)
I like the Tory sweater too- it’s so much more interesting than the vintage one.
So you’re gonna go on a clothes diet, huh? I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes for you. 💕 I have done a lot of no-buys and capsules upon capsules, and it’s good for a while and drives your creativity, well worth the effort. They aren’t for everyone, however, so be kind and flexible with yourself.
Your dinner party is beautiful. I love the swoosh as the sound a basketball makes. GO WITH IT! I have a tshirt that says "pearls" which is a skater brand, turns out. I just like pearls! XOXO
It was “tulip candlestick holder” lol - narrowed down to “ceramic” once I realized I wasn’t into the metal or glass ones as much. I just love tulips and occasionally will add “tulip” to the search terms for something I’m already looking for
Those tulip candle holders, what a find! I saw a pair of candlesticks last weekend at a flea market but my husband was extremely unconvinced and now I feel slightly regretful I didn't make a better case for them. I think that feeling of "enough" is the best time to map out a no-buy :)

I would also do a gift card exception 😂
That Benetton one is dreamy!!

Also can’t wait to see the rugby shirt - I love the way Lin styles hers!
75 days puts me into mid-March which feels perfect — maybe I’ll try that!

Oh that’s just so… healthy! I love it. Secondhand is magical.

Will miss the monthly round up of your purchases but totally hear you on taking a shopping break!
I don’t think it will be a year long one 😂but I do think at least the first few months of the year will be a good break

I wouldn’t have known “pearls” was a brand either!
Sooo nice things! The jeans OMG what are the model name? Also thinking no-buy and saving for really special things… like designer jeans…
They’re the Mara Jean from Agolde!
Elin! They’re on the realreal right now in a 27 for $80 if that’s your size .. https://www.therealreal.com/products/women/clothing/jeans/agolde-high-rise-straight-leg-jeans-nzdjv
Wow! I love the tulip candlestick holders, what was the search that led you to them? The charter club sweater is also so so good

I too am planning some sort of no-buy challenge come the new year. It’s definitely necessary!
I’ve been buying a lot of things this month 🙈 I’m also going to try a no-buy starting january!
My first pair of “designer” jeans two decades ago was AG. They’re still my favorite!!
lol I love that sweater so much & think abt it often????!
I’ll get it again!
