what I wore 039
from bare feet to fur coats
We are fully immersed in winter right now in New York, and I could not be happier. (Yes, even a ‘Feels Like’ of -10° is preferable to 80° in my opinion!) I need to hold onto this memory for summer, when I lose my capacity to enjoy getting dressed and going outside. Like all good—and bad—things, this too shall pass.
I try to provide a secondhand option for every piece of clothing in these posts, whether it’s the exact item or an approximation. You can assume anything I link to is secondhand unless otherwise stated!
Wearing Adidas shirt from a vintage store in Berlin (similar here), Everlane ballet flats (exact style here), Le Bon Shoppe socks, Apiece Apart pants bought from Rent the Runway (so many pairs on the RealReal right now, just look for the cotton/linen blend!), Who? Weekly podcast baseball cap, and a tote from the Jaune Quick-to-See Smith exhibit a few years ago at the Whitney Museum. I took this picture at Madewell while I was running some Christmas-related errands! (This was in Florida, hence the short sleeves.)
Wore this to the thrift store on my most successful day of thrifting in Florida. (I got ‘thrift arm’, which is what I call the feeling when you don’t get a cart and end up with hangers digging into your skin and a weird pain in your elbow from hoisting the clothes over your shoulder.) Had on my Dunst leather jacket (bought secondhand via Rent the Runway, similar here), Swatch watch via eBay (exact one here), Madewell t-shirt (same one in different color here), Adidas shoes (same pair here), Madewell beanie (similar here), and GAP pants (very similar here).
New Year’s Eve, wearing the spoils of my thrifting trip from the previous day. (Well, one thing.) The Talbot’s wool skirt (exact one here) was a thrift find, and I wore it with my faux fur coat via Poshmark (similar here), Bass loafers via eBay (exact style here), and a Madewell t-shirt (here in white). This was the coldest day of my entire time in Florida this winter! I was thrilled—I’ve spent New Year’s Eve in Florida for the past few years, and it’s a toss-up as to whether you’ll get a sticky, New York early June-equivalent day versus one like this. We went to Sarasota for a sunset cruise on Le Barge with friends, then headed to their place for dinner and games!
Wearing a Madewell t-shirt (exact one here), Agolde jeans (same ones here) and then GAP pants from earlier, Melissa sandals (exact ones here), thrifted Nike hat (exact one here), and Uniqlo crossbody bag (same one here). I think this was just a long day of work—can’t remember why I changed pants mid-day.
Wearing Madewell striped shirt (here in a different color) and repeats from earlier. I’m on a sunscreen journey… (my holy grail was discontinued last year and I am almost out of the last tubes I ordered on eBay… beauty products are not my area of expertise but the spreadsheet I have created to find my replacement would indicate otherwise) so I walked to the Sephora by my parents’ house a few times before I left to stock up on samples. Also wore this to work.
This was one of my last days in Florida. I spent the morning at the Capital One Cafe (my favorite place to write and catch up on case notes when I’m in Tampa… the complete absence of a vibe is exactly what I am looking for). Wearing a Garnet Hill vest via eBay (exact one here in blue), HAY tote bag (not the same thing but similar vibe here) and repeats from earlier.
Back in NYC and so happy about it. Wore this to the doctor! Wearing Rag & Bone scarf via the RealReal (exact one here), black Agolde jeans via the RealReal (same ones here), Uniqlo sweater (same one in different color here), Sam Edelman boots via Poshmark (same ones here), and repeats from earlier. Wore this exact same outfit the next weekend to hang out with my quilt guild friends, too.
This was the last non-chilly day in New York for a while! These pants are definitely more suited to warmer weather (I’ll be glad to have them this summer) but the weird off-black/grey/navy color goes so well with everything that I’ve been trying to get a few more wears out of them this winter. Wore this to work and then to stock up on groceries before the snowstorm. Wearing Coach beanie via eBay (similar here) and black Salomons (same style here)—rest is all repeats from earlier in the post.
Wearing my Norway sweatshirt via Etsy (no good comparison but I also love this weird sweatshirt!) J. Crew skirt via Unearth Vintage (exact one here), Bass loafers via eBay(same ones here), and repeats. This is what I wore to meet up with Ryan Rose Weaver (she/hers), who is truly just as lovely in person as she has been online in the small writing group I’ve been a part of for the past year. I got to meet a few of her friends and had some of the best birria tacos I can remember! This outfit is a good illustration of a truly warm (pre-snowfall) winter outfit—obviously, I’ve had to shift to boots until the snow melts, but the rest of this outfit still works for an evening with a temperature under 20°. The trick here was wearing one pair of Uniqlo HeatTech thin tights underneath another pair of ribbed HeatTech tights and my Uniqlo puffer layer underneath this coat.
Wore this to my friend’s frozen pizza birthday party! First time taking this skirt out on the town. Wearing thrifted pleated wool skirt (similar here), thrifted Perry Ellis sweater (exact one here in a different color), thrifted faux fur coat (very similar here), navy Coach beanie via eBay (similar here), Uniqlo white t-shirt (exact one here), and same Sam Edelman boots as before.

The Capital One Cafe is lucky to have you!
I just love the leopard coat so much!!!
