what I wore 040
a very cultured week in red, blue, and leopard
Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have a winter theme… the most bright and primary shades of red and blue with a dash of leopard print!
I try to provide a secondhand option for every piece of clothing in these posts, whether it’s the exact item or an approximation. You can assume anything I link to is secondhand unless otherwise stated!
Third round of the neighborhood book club at a nearby bar. (Hamnet, if you were curious.) I wore my Sandro argyle sweater bought via Rent the Runway (similar here), old Madewell pleated skirt (exact one here), Sam Edelman boots via Poshmark (exact ones here), red Madewell beanie (similar here). I love this outfit—feels like classic winter Eleanor.
Out and about running errands (this was taken in the dressing room at Uniqlo on a trip where I did not buy anything… please clap!) Wearing my Tissavel faux fur jacket (similar here), GAP drawstring pants (very similar style here), Madewell shirt (here in a different color), Coach beanie via eBay (similar here), and repeats. I really love this coat—I think it works so well with a casual outfit!
I took a crochet class at Brooklyn Craft Company and made a scarf! (Well, I started it in the class and finished it later that evening while I was at the downstairs neighbors’ apartment.) Wearing my Miami Heat sweatshirt via Etsy (similar here), Rag and Bone scarf via the RealReal (similar here), and repeats from earlier in the post. This skirt may be one of the oldest items in my closet that I’ve purchased firsthand. I think I got it during my first year of working in an office, which was 2013. I probably wouldn’t buy it today, because it’s not 100% wool, but you know what… it’s never actually bothered me!
Wore this to therapy. Wearing thrifted pleated maxi skirt (similar here), crochet scarf I made myself (!), and repeats from earlier in the post. I’m still figuring out what works with this skirt (so far: oversized sweater, cropped sweatshirt) but it feels like it’s opened up a completely new silhouette in my winter wardrobe.
Met up with my friend Angel at Alamo Drafthouse to see Wuthering Heights. Never read the book, thoroughly enjoyed Angel’s company but not so much the movie. I’ve said this to a few people but I’ll say it again… this movie is predicated on finding Jacob Elordi attractive… and he is just not for me! (I’m very confident this is a classic case of ‘punching up,’ and that Jacob Elordi has plenty of people who find him very attractive, which is why I feel comfortable saying that here.)
Wearing a Garnet Hill sweater vest via eBay (exact one here in blue), Apiece Apart pants via Rent the Runway (so many pairs on the RealReal right now, just look for the cotton/linen blend!), Dunst leather jacket via Rent the Runway (exact one here), white Uniqlo t-shirt, thrifted red wool Jones New York jacket (very similar here). I hadn’t worn this red wool jacket in a while—I’d planned to wear my black Uniqlo liner in its place until I realized my dear husband had borrowed it for the day. Don’t tell him, but in the end I was glad he took it because the outfit was better with the pop of red underneath!
Accompanied Robyn T. Davies to a photography exhibit in Manhattan, then stopped at Sauced for dinner and a drink. We split a brisket grilled cheese with pho that I’m going to be thinking about for months. Wore my Adidas shirt from vintage store in Berlin (very similar here), thrifted Eileen Fisher navy corduroy coat (exact one here), Uniqlo x Lemaire liner via Poshmark (similar here), Madewell belt (exact one here). (One more outfit possibility with this skirt unlocked… oversized t-shirt plus pleated wool maxi!) I almost posted this coat on Poshmark after I bought it because I didn’t know if I would choose it over the rest of my coat collection, but I’m glad I held onto it!
Realized the American Folk Art ‘Ecology of Quilts’ exhibit was closing soon and I hadn’t gone yet—managed to fit it in during a mid-day break. It’s a free museum, so I don’t mind that it only takes me about fifteen minutes to walk through the entire thing. Wearing Rag and Bone scarf via the RealReal (exact one here), Tibi jacket via Rent the Runway (exact one here), Simkhai sweatshirt via the RealReal (exact one here), Agolde jeans via the Realreal (exact ones here in a 30), black Salomons (exact ones here), and repeats. I rarely wear this sweatshirt as an intentional part of an outfit because it’s quite bulky, but it’s a good layering piece in the winter when I’m planning to keep my coat on anyway.
This is what I wore to my quilt guild meeting! Wearing brown Salomons (exact ones here), Needles corduroys via Grailed (similar here), sweatshirt via Etsy (similar vibe here), and repeats.

I’m obsessed with the beanies! Next winter I’ll see if I can pull one off as well as you do (spoiler alert: I’m sure I won’t)
I’d love to hear more about how you purchase clothes from rent the runway. You know, when you run out of ideas, ha ha!
