copy+paste is a series of attempts to either digitally or physically recreate an outfit I saw and admired IRL. (You can find all installments here.) I love seeing street style photos, but ethically, I feel uncomfortable including my iPhone creep shots in a public newsletter unless I’ve explicitly asked someone for permission to share. So the actual photo will remain on my phone, but you will still be able to share in the essence and hopefully appreciate the outfit as much as I did!
She was crossing the street by Trader Joe’s, wearing a fur jacket in mottled grey and white. Her rubber-soled boots were somehow sleek, rather than chunky. She wore giant, Beats-adjacent headphones in place of a hat or earmuffs, a red scarf flung casually around her neck, and droopy silver tote bag hanging from her shoulder. Though she looked young enough to have been in diapers during the Juicy Couture matching set craze of the early 2000s, her pants, in espresso brown, were a dead ringer for those velour sweatpants, down to the slight flare.
This outfit was a more practical, seasonally updated version of the dressy top/casual bottom formula that took over Pinterest and TikTok last year. Fanciful on the top and practical on the bottom makes sense when your primary consideration is navigating inches of slush and dirty snow that’s long overstayed its welcome. (I’ll add the caveat that I’m not on TikTok, so perhaps the fur coat/sweatpants look has also been sweeping the app, but this is the first time I’ve seen it either online or IRL.) And as we move into the final stages of an unusually cold and snowy New York City winter, it was also a reminder of brighter days ahead1—in an endless sea of black puffer jackets and Bean boots2, that combination of silver, fur, and a flash of red felt like the first glimpse of land on the horizon3.

I understand that this is the general sentiment; however, I would personally be fine with eternal winter!
Both of which are things I own and am not knocking!
Very eternal-winter-fan myself! I don’t know if I can let go of my teenage “NEVER!!” to juicy couture (was very anti-Prep for someone who owns more loafers than is advisable now) but I love this texture & color combo, wowww
2 things:
that outfit sounds like perfection.
how could anyone be ok with eternal winter? i'm losing my mind 😩🤣
