I bought the cobalt blue coach beanie from your ebay link. :) I'm moving from NJ to Maine and am keeping my eye out for cozy warm things. I'm almost completely buying second-hand now and owe it all to substacks like yours. It's a big change because a year ago I was buying almost all new. I wore the cobalt coach beanie to see the eclipse in Maine. I paired it with greyish olive green pants that I got from an estate sale (so many here in NJ!) and an old army green llbean jacket. Also inspired by you, I'm watching several SF Babette items and now those eyelet tops. The Madewell one feels more practical but I love the Sandy Liang. Is it comfortable? I'm wondering how the sizing runs and your thoughts on its practicality vs novelty.

So much here to respond to!!! So cool that you’ve shifted your shopping habits so much in the last year - it’s hard but fun! I haven’t been to an estate sale (it’s a different beast in nyc) but now thinking I should go to one in Florida when I’m back with my parents. You should post the pants in the chat!

As for the sandy liang, I do love it but I think that and the Madewell shirt serve such different purposes. The sandy liang shirt was also a polarizing rental lol - some people would review it like “what the hell are these sleeves” and others were like “this is the most flattering shirt I’ve ever worn” - I’ll see if I can find the RTR reviews so you can see some more pics from other people wearing it. Also happy to keep an eye out for cool eyelet shirts of any shape—Etsy is GREAT for vintage eyelet

The only downside is sometimes I smell a little dusty. Need to figure that one out.

EstateSales.net has an app where you can preview the items and get a feel for the person’s taste and size. I’ve struck gold a few times with someone who got all her clothes custom made so nothing was branded and also it’s a win if I’m the only person my size at the sale.

Love all of the color combinations this week. I’m very close to booking a consultation to “have my colors done” because I’ve realized I love a pop of color and an unexpected color combo. My Pinterest style board proves it!

Having a palette of ultra flattering colors feels like it would help quiet down the shopping noise.

I read the Color Me Beautiful book from the 80s before paying to have mine done and wish I would have skipped paying for the color analysis. It was almost $300, and I was what I thought I would be based on the book. (Fair warning: it is a product of its time 😬)

Good tip (and warning!) - I might also take a look

@rabbitfurcoat I am new here what is your season?

I haven’t done my colors/season, but I’ve been curious about it! Mostly curious to see if they match up with what I prefer to wear already :)

I found it on thriftbooks.com for $5 and then ordered a couple others for my son for free shipping (shipping is $3 normally). Our library didn’t have it

@shitiloveinmyhouse Grace, I have fallen DEEP down the rabbit hole. I ordered the book on Amazon in an overnight baby feeding haze, it came overnight (still blows my mind), and am reading it now. I think I’m a winter too but kind of hate all of these colors. Warming up to the idea.

Oh, here’s a gem: “women who wear makeup earn 20 percent more than those who don’t” 🥴

Okay, I’m tempted to get it from the library now! I will say that as someone with pale skin I wouldn’t have tried fuchsia blush without color analysis, but it looks pretty damn good.

It gives some pretty helpful guidelines on how to determine what you are if you’re ~between seasons~ that were helpful. I correctly pegged myself (true winter ❄️) and my friend who went with me (a soft summer ☀️). I was able to get it from my library through an inter-library loan since my local library likely purged it years ago. I worked with a consultant from House of Colour, and there was a lot of overlap between the colors suggested in the book and the swatch book I received at the end of my appointment.

There was a misunderstanding with my request for the inter library loan and I received the MAKEUP version of Color Me Beautiful. The photos in here are a sight to behold! Going to thumb through in and see what I can glean.

Dang it! I bet you are seeing a lot of matte mauve blush 🤣

Ours doesn’t have it but will also see if I can do an inter-library loan. Great tip!

I rented those Rodebjer pants earlier this year with the matching shirt! But I think I like them better on their own.

This is when I wish we had the ability to share RTR “hearts” lists! Always curious about what other people are renting

I was considering getting the Rodebjer pants in their sale but I waited too long and now I’m (almost) crying seeing how good they look on you! Love the brown with the red and blue

If it makes you feel better I will probably be returning them after this rental cycle - they’re really soft but I didn’t realize they’re not actually cotton and they’re a synthetic blend, and they’re a little sweaty if I’m wearing them in real heat. (Maybe not as much of an issue where you are 😂)

Oh really? I thought they were definitely a cotton denim

Yeah the rent the runway description feels a little misleading! It says “brown cotton (55% polyester, 45% viscose”—that’s not cotton!

With your green tote n orange shirt= Miami Hurricanes😊. I’m a Hurricane but not a Gator fan🤷🏽‍♀️.

Love the pants. I enjoy the longer length as it elongates me-us. Haven’t jumped on the barrel wagon yet but you wore them well so….

Enjoy your Florida time. Sunblock/hat and always hydrate😉. Can’t wait to see your other warmer weather looks next week!

Ha, you’re right! Honestly I’m sure most color combos belong to a sports team somewhere.. I shouldn’t be too concerned. I’m not great at hydrating, but I’m very good at applying and reapplying sunscreen :)

In other news, I just bought a second pair of Needles pants -- used -- and they are denim. And paisley. That's hot with 10000ts. Love your FL looks.

Seeing you in those Agolde barrel leg jeans in a notes post (almost positive you posted something like that recently!) renewed my desire to rent a pair and I jumped on them right away when they became available (Agolde is a hot commodity on RTR)
