I’m in Florida for a couple weeks to spend some time with my family, hence the childhood bedroom as backdrop in these photos. It’s a luxury to have parents I love and get along with who have enough space to handle a few houseguests (and a luxury to have a husband who volunteered to drive down with our dog) and I’m trying to make the most of my time here during my non-working hours! I normally struggle to dress for warm weather, but I’ve felt much more successful during this trip—maybe it’s having the constraint of what I could fit into a suitcase, or the brighter accessories (shoes, bags) I’ve recently added that bring some color to an otherwise dark or dull palette.
DAY ONE: Met up with bff who lives in Sarasota for a beach day, under an umbrella the entire time, of course! I wore my thrifted Florida baseball cap (similar here) that I can’t wear in NYC because it makes me look like a Republican lol, a Youswim bathing suit (a few secondhand here), J. Crew tote (exact one here; many secondhand here), Madewell scarf (similar here), thrifted Calvin Klein chambray/denim shirt (similar here), thrifted linen drawstring pants (exact pair secondhand here), and black rubber Birkenstocks (secondhand here.) I like leaving some clothes at my parents’ house, even if I’m only there a couple times a year. I forgot about these linen pants!
DAY TWO: Had dinner with the whole family at a favorite spot on the water (dolphin sighting! it’s always magical!) I ended up wearing different shoes, as we were walking through sand, but didn’t manage to get a picture before leaving the house. I’m wearing a rented Ciao Lucia shirt (similar options in my previous post!), rented Rodebjer pants (similar here), blue suede Holzweiler sandals (similar here), and a mini tote from the Whitney Museum gift shop (can’t find it secondhand, but on their website here.) I’ve been using this bag inside my rope tote so the little things don’t fall out, but I’m trying it out solo. I love it on its own because it is the antithesis of everything a tote bag is supposed to be. It fits almost nothing. And I like the idea of being an emerging artist at any age =)
DAY THREE: (Mostly) window-shopping and lunch with my sister. Changed up the dinner outfit ever so slightly—wearing the Holzweiler sandals again, Rodebjer pants again, J.Crew tote again (with blue Madewell scarf, similar here), and a By Malene Birger black tank top (similar here).
DAY FOUR: Wore this out to run errands in the morning and work in the afternoon. I’m wearing a Sandy Liang eyelet top that I purchased from Rent the Runway (exact one secondhand here and here), J. Crew tote and Madewell scarf again, Anthropologie pants (very similar here), DSW fisherman sandals purchased last summer as a last-minute replacement after the dog chewed up the previous pair of brown leather sandals—here are the exact ones I used to own, secondhand! I bought these pants new with my sister’s employee discount (tysm!!!)—yes, a non-secondhand purchase. More on that to follow in an April roundup.
DAY FIVE: This was probably my favorite outfit of the entire week, and I barely left the house! I’m wearing an eyelet camp shirt from Madewell that I left here on my last trip (exact one secondhand here), a pearl pendant necklace I found in my childhood bedroom dresser (similar here), Needles pants (secondhand here and here), and the Holzweiler sandals again. I’m about to make a sweeping generalization here (sample size of three: my father, my husband, and my father-in-law), but straight men don’t seem to “get” these pants. And that’s okay! I’m not dressing for them, I’m dressing for me (and my overwhelmingly non-straight male audience.)
DAY SIX: Wore this out to dinner with the family—I had a mocktail with shishito pepper wasabi simple syrup that I need to recreate at home. Wearing an orange By Malene Birger tank top (similar here), the J. Crew tote again, pearl pendant again, Holzweiler sandals again, and newly rented Agolde barrel leg jeans (similar here and here) that I have a feeling I will be holding onto for several months. I’ve always been averse to the orange/blue pairing because it feels very UF/Florida Gator (nothing against UF, just never been a ‘team colors’ kind of person), but strangely the green of the tote bag—the color of an actual gator—cuts the team colors vibe a little bit. I assumed these jeans would provoke a similar response to the Needles pants from my straight male commentators, but so far the reaction has been uniformly positive.
DAY SEVEN: Every client except for one canceled for the day (it happens!) so I had an unexpected afternoon free, and tried to make the most of it by doing some work and some writing at a coffee shop. Wore the Rodebjer pants and the Holzweiler sandals again, and a red Alex Mill shirt from the RealReal (similar here.) Really enjoying the combination of these three colors: chocolate brown, scarlet red, and this specific shade of blue (cerulean and azure come to mind, but honestly the closest I’ve come to seeing this blue in nature is that photo of the rare blue lobster.)
I’ll be in Florida for a little while longer (look how happy the dog is and tell me you wouldn’t want to stay as long as possible), so you can expect at least one more week of outfits from the Sunshine State!

I bought the cobalt blue coach beanie from your ebay link. :) I'm moving from NJ to Maine and am keeping my eye out for cozy warm things. I'm almost completely buying second-hand now and owe it all to substacks like yours. It's a big change because a year ago I was buying almost all new. I wore the cobalt coach beanie to see the eclipse in Maine. I paired it with greyish olive green pants that I got from an estate sale (so many here in NJ!) and an old army green llbean jacket. Also inspired by you, I'm watching several SF Babette items and now those eyelet tops. The Madewell one feels more practical but I love the Sandy Liang. Is it comfortable? I'm wondering how the sizing runs and your thoughts on its practicality vs novelty.
Love all of the color combinations this week. I’m very close to booking a consultation to “have my colors done” because I’ve realized I love a pop of color and an unexpected color combo. My Pinterest style board proves it!
Having a palette of ultra flattering colors feels like it would help quiet down the shopping noise.
