week of outfits, round 7

the velvet vest makes its debut

This past week was full of lovely weather and time spent outside with friends, as well as lots of layering practice for spring. I mentally sort all of my outerwear by acceptable temperature range, and I’ve got the winter jackets down: Aritzia puffer is for 35° and below; grey wool coat is for 45-55°(with Uniqlo puffer layer brings it down another 10 degrees to 35-45°; Tibi Liam is for 50-60°, leather is 55-65° (or 45-55° with Uniqlo layer, etc.) Remembering and revising temperature ranges for my spring jackets now!

Occasion: Joint birthday dinner w/my husband (new restaurant! gift card!)

Notes: The velvet vest! I was so worried about how to style it (fearful of pirate or “alt tux guy” vibes)… turns out I just needed to wear it on its own.

Notes: I will never not feel comfortable in an outfit like this.

Occasion: Cheese plate dinner!
Details: Silk/linen quilted Eileen Fisher jacket via Poshmark, similar here; Met tank top, similar here; rented Holzweiler sweater/dickey, similar (somewhat) here; rented Missoma necklace again; rented Monse pants again; cow print loafers again.
Notes: This was a quickchange outfit—I was coming home from a workout class and did a two-minute shower and eyebrow gel on my way out the door. Really wanted to wear this newly rented sweater vest thing but if I’d had a few more minutes to think about my outfit I would have chosen a different jacket or pants, something denim. This was probably one of the best weeks to wear it, though—there’s a very narrow temperature/humidity window when a sleeveless, sideless sweater makes sense, but it did this week!

Occasion: Work and dentist (no cavities! just grinding my teeth into nubs!)

Notes: Liking the dickey better with this outfit than the previous one! Needs longer, looser layers over it.

Occasion: Monthly quilt guild meeting and some time outside appreciating the unequivocally lovely weather (even an ice queen like me can acknowledge a perfect spring day!)
Details: Wrangler denim jacket from a denim store in Brooklyn in 2011ish that I lost and re-found on Etsy, exact one secondhand here; Monster Jam shirt via Poshmark, secondhand here; Ashley Park x RTR pants, similar here here here and here (or you can buy them from me… lol I bought the wrong size first so I currently own two pairs and I’m selling the 4); Nike Blazers again, rented Missoma necklace again.
Notes: I am not the youngest Eleanor in the quilt guild SOMEHOW, but I can say with certainty that I was the only person wearing a Monster Jam t-shirt to the meeting.

Occasion: “Field trip” to Russ and Daughters and multiple candy stores in the city with a friend who is moving back to London this summer

Notes: Broke my no-buy March on this field trip, but in an intentional way that I don’t feel guilty about! Will share more in no-buy post at the end of the month.

Occasion: Laundromat (this trip’s book was About Ed by Robert Gluck) + WFH

Notes: This was one of the rare non-secondhand garments I bought recently (on a trip in December.) Not making a habit of it, but it definitely feels better to do that in-store while shopping with a friend as opposed to ordering something new online!
