My New York Times Style section debut (by that I mean being quoted in the NYT, not writing for them, lol) was in 2015, in an article about how global warming was ruining fall outfits.
This post is scheduled is scheduled on a bit of a delay, but as of now (it’s October 13th while I’m compiling this), it’s still hot out.
Next time!
I try to provide a secondhand option for every piece of clothing in these posts, whether it’s the exact item or an approximation. You can assume anything I link to is secondhand unless otherwise stated!
This photo is from almost a month ago at this point, but we’re halfway through October now and it’s barely dipped back down to temperatures where this outfit would be appropriate again. Wearing a Uniqlo men’s corduroy button-up (similar here), a thrifted BDG striped shirt (exact one here), Agolde jeans (multiple pairs here), and Bass loafers (exact ones here in a 9—go 1/2 size down from your regular size). My husband tells me I look like the host of a children’s show when I wear this shirt.
I think I was just running errands in this outfit, but pretty sure I wore something similar to see Nada Surf more recently. I don’t use this Uniqlo bag enough. Wearing my NYC Sewing Club shirt of dubious provenance, painter pants from Curator SF (this style has been discontinued, as far as I can tell—find them here in a cobalt blue), Melissa sandals (exact ones here), Uniqlo bag (soooo many secondhand here, just don’t pay over the original price on Poshmark because Uniqlo still sells them!), and a necklace I made.
The problem with pulling together these outfit posts on a delay is I can’t remember what I was actually doing that day! Oh well—I had a lot to say about Bridget Jones’s Diary and Selling Sunset that I needed to get out. Wearing a Sea New York shirt (exact one here in a small, different colorway here in a small), Agolde rented jeans (still holding onto them…same style in white here, and I’m so sorry to link something new but somehow they are $107 on Shopbop right now in 24, 25, 26, and 32), and the gold version of the Melissa sandals (exact pair here).
This is a simple outfit but I really liked it. There’s something about the color combo of the stripes and the ringer neckline that makes it feel less matchy. Wore it on a sunny September day for a long dog walk in between work. Wearing the Melissa sandals again, Needles trousers (exact ones here), and Madewell striped t-shirt (exact one here).
I threw on this denim shirt over my tank top when I had meetings, but otherwise it was tank top weather! Wearing the Agolde jeans and Melissa sandals again with a black By Malene Birger tank top (similar here) and thrifted Calvin Klein denim button-up (I think this is the exact one here in a large for $11).
Wore this to my friend’s book launch—go buy his book! Wearing Lee Mathews blouse (similar vibe here, similar Lee Mathews shirt in different colors here), Apiece Apart linen pants (here), and Holzweiler sandals (similar puffy vibe here and similar suede here), and my Catbird violet gumball pearl on a chain I found in a box of old jewelry in my linen closet (very similar pearl pendant here).
This floral felt appropriate for my monthly quilt guild meeting, as I regularly pick up scraps of floral fabric from the free table there! Wore my Laura Ashley x Batsheva shirt (exact one here), Apiece Apart pants again, and Everlane mary janes (a lot of colors and sizes here).
Another hot day—spent it working and hanging in the park across the street with the neighbors. All repeat garments from earlier in the week except for the necklace, which is Roxanne Assoulin via TRR (similar here).
We’ll finish out the week where we started—with the Uniqlo corduroy shirt, loafers, and jeans. Just changed out the shirt for a very different vibe! Wearing a Tory Burch silk blouse via the RealReal (similar here).
If you missed the previous installments of weekly outfit posts, you can find them here!
I feel you on the lack of cool fall (thx global warming) 😭
there was finally a cool snap this week here (nc) & I was able to wear tights and a wool skirt to an early am appointment! I’ve been accumulating a lot of wool & cashmere lately in anticipation of moving to Boston 🤞 but it hasn’t been much chillier there than here so far this season!
That Laura Ashley x Batsheva shirt looks amazing on you! I love how you styled the rest of the outfit to let it shine.
Still waiting for true fall over here in Illinois, thanks to climate change! My corduroy pants, etc. are just languishing...
