Here’s another batch of fall outfits to round out October, including the first official ‘tights day’ of the season.
I try to provide a secondhand option for every piece of clothing in these posts, whether it’s the exact item or an approximation. You can assume anything I link to is secondhand unless otherwise stated!
I rented this Tory Burch sweater all the way back in August (the heart wants what it wants) and this was the first day it was cold enough outside to actually wear it. There are so many good secondhand wool and cashmere sweaters on eBay—might I suggest this one or this one as alternates? Also wearing Agolde jeans (exact ones here in a 28), Bass loafers (exact ones here), and Hansel from Basel socks (new here, in Ochre)—they’re the exact same color as the collar of the sweater!
Wearing a rented Dunst leather jacket (similar vintage one here but it’s expensive!), rented Rixo sweater vest (similar here), an old white button-up shirt, thrifted black Tommy Hilfiger denim shorts that I seam-ripped the hems of (similar here), tights, and black Bass loafers (this Google search will turn up more options for you than just using Poshmark, oddly enough). I had my eye on this Tibi sweater vest on the RealReal for weeks, but didn’t like it enough to snap it up before someone else did. This Rixo sweater vest was close enough to soften the blow. I like it, but I don’t love it—this shade of pink is more extreme and less dusty than what drew me to the Tibi one, and it’s also 20% nylon instead of pure wool or cotton. I’m glad I rented it, and I’ll get more wear out of it before I return it, but I think I prefer a v-neck sweater vest to a crew neck anyway! This leather jacket was also a rental—it’s beautiful, but it’s a bit small, and I wouldn’t have actually been able to wear it zipped up.
I wore the outfit on the left earlier in the morning to take the dog on a walk, but by the time I left again around 10:00 AM for my quilt guild meeting, it was already hot enough to warrant a change, so I ditched the jacket and traded the loafers for sandals for the rest of the day. I’m wearing these amazing pants from a brand called W’menswear—I first saw them in my friend Anna’s closet when I went to her apartment in SF this summer. After a couple months of deliberation, I ended up buying them in person from Alter in Greenpoint. No real comparable secondhand options but I think these and these come close! Wearing the Dunst leather jacket again, along with an old Proenza Schouler silk textured shirt via TRR (truly cannot find anything remotely similar secondhand!), Florida lotto cap (exact one here with a bonus hat), and the Bass loafers, which I switched out for Melissa sandals (exact ones here). Went straight from my meeting to the movie theater to see Anora—anyone else watched it yet?
Went to dinner with my friend who is also from Florida, so I wore this Miami Heat shirt as an homage. We had dinner at a restaurant beloved to both of us that serves one of my favorite food items in Brooklyn—broccoli tacos. Drinks and dessert on the house! Notice that the leather jacket I’m wearing is bigger now. I used my second Rent the Runway shipment of the month to swap that size small for a large and I think it looks much better. (OG subscribers may also remember this post—I think this jacket is my “close-enough” to the Tibi aviator leather bomber.) Also wearing Nike Blazers (so many on Depop) and the Agolde jeans again.
Wore this to a fifteenth anniversary party for former and current staff of the bookstore where I used to work. 2009! That bookstore was basically my first home in NYC and it’s so amazing to see it thriving fifteen years later. Wearing a velvet vest I got from the Pickwick Vintage show in LA last year (similar here), an Opening Ceremony silk bomber jacket via eBay (exact one here—they’re all over the internet at widely varied price points… just search “opening ceremony silk bomber jacket” and you’ll get to look at all the colorways), and the W’Menswear pants and Melissa sandals again.
Walked to my favorite new bakery just up the street for a little treat before work. I’m not even a pastry person—I usually prefer sugar to hit my bloodstream immediately via candy—but I will absolutely make an exception for this place. Wearing rented Agolde jeans (none secondhand, but feeling obligated to tell you that they are still on sale for $107 on Shopbop right now if you are a 24, 25, or 26), TSE purple cashmere sweater via Poshmark (similar here, here, and here), blue Coach beanie via eBay (exact one here), Sam Edelman chunky boots (exact ones here), and the Dunst leather jacket. There’s something off about the colors in this outfit. I think it would have looked better with either a dark rinse denim (like these) or a “warmer” shade of denim (like these ones). (Those are just example colors—not recommending either pair!) I ended up changing into my Nike Blazers and a striped polo from Beacon’s Closet (similar here) before leaving the city later that afternoon to go to New Jersey. This shirt ends up being my “road trip” shirt—not sure why, but I find myself wearing it frequently when I’m doing a long solo drive.
I wore this to the field by my in-laws’ house to throw a soccer ball around with the dog in the morning and meant to change into jeans afterwards, but I’m actually very into this look as it is. I think I’ll be wearing loafers with sweatpants a lot this winter! These are the Nike Phoenix oversized high-waisted joggers, which I got in a couple colors early last year. I think they’re reminiscent of the Tibi Calder, but not as extreme of a barrel shape. Here they are in a M and a 2X—relatively easy to find on eBay! Also wearing Bass loafers, Coach beanie, and Dunst jacket again, along with a rented Rails sweater that looks like a rugby shirt (similar here, here, and here).
Back to school vibes for work and a big Wegman’s grocery run. Wearing old MUJI corduroys (similar style here, and here in dark brown), GAP denim jacket via Buffalo Exchange (similar here, but there is so much more vintage GAP out there!), and navy wool COS shirt (same style, different color here), Roxanne Assoulin necklace (similar here), and Nike Blazers again.
I’m picky about pants. I like them structured and heavy, substantial and sturdy, tight at the waist but not as much anywhere else. I love the way that a delicate pair of silk trousers looks on other people, but thinking about actually wearing them is kind of a sensory nightmare for me. These sweatpants have a thick waistband that stays in place and very baggy legs, which fit my specifications perfectly. Wearing those Nike sweatpants in brown (here on ThredUp in a size S and Depop in a size XS), and Blazers in tan suede (same ones here). Leather jacket again, and a BDG thrifted mockneck shirt (similar fit here). Trying to channel ‘tunnel fit’ with this outfit—still landing closer to ‘host of a popular children’s YouTube channel’, but I’m getting there.

Love the shape of those Mujis!
Totally agree about the outfit change for day 6… I didn’t think anything of it until you mentioned it but liked the 2nd outfit better (maybe bc the blazers match the light stripes of the top?) and maybe bc the bold colors of the beanie, sweater plus the dark jacket don’t really complement the light wash of the jeans? Just my observations lol but! This really makes me think I should invest in a dark wash jean bc clearly there’s times when you need them 😊👖
