You can see the arrival of summer in the progression of these outfits—the first one involves a leather jacket, jeans, and closed-toe shoes; the last one involves a shirt with holes and pants that barely touch my body. I’m longing to wear layers again, but adding a couple skirts to my wardrobe has at least added some novelty and variety to my least favorite season!
I try to provide a secondhand option for every piece of clothing in these posts, whether it’s the exact item or an approximation. You can assume anything I link to is secondhand unless otherwise stated!
Went to MoMA between my morning and evening session blocks to see the Woven Histories exhibit. I came away with so much inspiration—how to add dimension to my quilts, new color palettes, etc… There’s a feeling you only get when you’re surrounded by objects that people have devoted so much attention and labor to, and I got that from this exhibit. Wore my Batsheva x Laura Ashley shirt (exact one here), thrifted leather blazer (very similar here), Baggu leather bag (exact one here), Agolde jeans bought secondhand via Nuuly (many pairs if you search 'Agolde Luna' on Poshmark), and the Adidas Taekwondo Mei (exact ones here).
That evening, we went to Place des Fêtes for dinner. I changed into my my Uniqlo linen t-shirt (exact one here), GAP barrel jeans (exact ones here), the Tod’s leather bag that was my February purchase (exact one in black here for $108), and rewore the leather jacket and shoes from earlier in the day.

Day of work and errands—wearing my vintage ‘picnic shirt1’ (similar here) and W’Menswear patchwork pants (similar vibe here, similar silhouette here) for some levity. Also wearing my Melissa sandals (exact ones here) and Who? Weekly baseball cap.
My friend Carley was in town for the weekend so we met her in the city for dinner at Cafe Gitane.2 Bread pudding for dessert! Wore a silk floral Tory Burch blouse via the RealReal (similar vibe here), Holzweiler sandals (similar vibe here), Agolde jeans again, and a straw bag (similar here) that I thrifted with Carley last year when I was in Florida.
I wore this to the last quilt guild meeting of the year—we reconvene in September! I’m wearing a black poplin skirt from Madewell (exact one here), thrifted Miami Heat shirt (similar here), Roxanne Assoulin necklace via the RealReal (similar here), Mondo Mondo charm via Poshmark (different color here), Melissa sandals in black (exact ones here), and the same baseball cap as before.
Visited the new location of Tatter—they were having a fabric sale to raise money to finish the buildout. Left with some vintage floral scrap fabric, then went to my friend Kara’s to work on some quilt projects. Wore my vintage chore coat (very similar here), Tampa Theatre t-shirt (similar here), and my new J. Crew ramie skirt (exact one here in light blue), along with the Melissa sandals again. Yes, I should iron this skirt before I wear it… and no, I won’t. I spent an hour ironing curtains the other night—I’m done for the month!
It was so hot out that I almost didn’t go to this event at Pioneer Works, but I’m so glad I did. (I learned that there are whales alive today that were alive during the time of commercial whaling and they can remember it.) I wore a Ciao Lucia top (exact one here in XL and here in XS), Needles pants (exact ones here), and the straw bag, Melissa sandals, and baseball cap again. This was the day of the mayoral primary, and I was making a conscious effort to stay off my phone, so I didn’t even look at the news until I was almost home. It felt fitting to find out that Zohran Mamdani had won while I was on a city bus… perhaps by this time next year that bus ride will be free!
Work, errands, impulse buying a whiteboard at Target… the usual. Wearing my J. Crew skirt, baseball cap, and sandals again, along with a shirt I got from ASOS last summer for my husband when I was ordering some seventies inspired clothes for him to wear to his mother’s surprise birthday party. (This shirt wasn’t for the party… I just threw it in because I thought he might like it. He didn’t, so I moved it to my closet.) I love the silhouette of this shirt and the long skirt together. I would live in this style of shirt (men’s, oversized, camp collar, linen/cotton) during the summer if I had more of them. This one in particular looks vaguely like a guayabera.
Spent a low-key Fourth of July with my husband’s family and their neighborhood friends and community. Felt grateful to be aligned with both my family and his on so many of our disappointments with the current system and hopes for the future. Didn’t want to go full red white and blue but I do love a pop of red, so I packed these ASOS patent leather sandals I’ve had for a while (similar vibes here, here, and here). The picnic shirt made a reappearance, as did the baseball cap and the Needles cargo pants. Also, apropos of something… wearing these pants on this day reminded me of this tweet from ages ago:
IDK... just feels like a shirt you would wear to a picnic!
(Odd information conveyed by server: apparently, because they are located across the street from a church, they are not allowed to serve full-strength alcohol. They have wine and beer, but the alcohol in their cocktails is marked with a “(20%)” to indicate that it is actually a much lower proof of alcohol. To make up for this, they apparently use double the amount of alcohol that would be in a normal cocktail, but this makes the drink taste way more boozy, and makes ordering something plain like a tequila soda quite unpleasant, because it basically tastes like a shot. Interesting!)
yesss another devotee of the summer skirt (they get a bad rap for being "fussy" I suppose because that's how people register anything 'feminine' but a long relaxed skirt in summer >>>>>>>>> jeans or most trousers, for physical comfort in hot/humid weather they're basically unbeatable )
Low-key obsessed with how much a baseball cap feels like an integral part of your fits.
