Some takeaways from this first week of outfits upon returning from Florida—I dearly missed my winter wardrobe and I did some good thrifting while I was away. This little red wool jacket in particular is already proving its worth. Some other relatively small and debatably superficial things aside from access to my full wardrobe that have made me feel better since I’ve been back—getting my nails done for the first time in months and my hair cut for the first time in a year.
I just *feel* better with my nails done (we can excavate this later… I’m sure the reasons overwhelmingly have to deal with patriarchy! also some sensory issues I’ve never fully addressed!) It means I stop fixating on my hands and actually move through the world without obsessing over the way they look or feel. That’s how it feels to get dressed sometimes—I can finally stop thinking about the fact that I’m inhabiting a body (you mean we all have to do this until we die?) once it’s clothed in something I love. Here’s to indulging in the surface level1 in order to access the rest. ❤️
I try to provide a secondhand option for every piece of clothing in these posts, whether it’s the exact item or an approximation. You can assume anything I link to is secondhand unless otherwise stated!
Last days in Florida! Work, errands, packing. Wearing Levi’s x Karla western shirt (very similar here), DL1961 jeans (here in a 24—these run big, would order at least one size down), Madewell belt (similar vintage one here), and Loeffler Randall cowboy boots (mine are these gorgeous ones with tulip cutouts that my husband got me for Christmas and I can’t find secondhand yet, but these are some Loeffler Randall boots that essentially look like the same thing from the ankle down!) Will never be able to dress like this without thinking about Bruce Brown.
Went to a vintage store to sell a couple coats, then to my favorite frozen yogurt stop, saying my general Florida goodbyes. A guy who was working at the store told me he liked my outfit! I love leaving the house! Miami Heat sweatshirt (similar here), thrifted Ralph Lauren blue and white striped button-up (similar here), GAP high rise barrel jeans (here in black), thrifted (from high school) necklaces and pearl brooch pinned onto necklace, Loeffler Randall cowboy boots again.
I’m back, baby! I missed my apartment, my neighborhood, my friends! This was just a day of work and getting settled back in. Wearing Burberry wool vest (extremely similar Ralph Lauren version here), thrifted white Ralph Lauren button-up (similar here), Sam Edelman boots (many here), thrifted necklaces and DL1961 jeans again.
More unpacking, more work. Wearing thrifted Jones New York wool jacket (size small $25, small $48, large $40—mine is a large, but I could wear a medium, if you are curious about sizing), Muji navy and black striped mock neck shirt (here in a different colorway), DL1961 jeans, Madewell belt, and Loeffler Randall boots again.
You can tell I was still in bed about five minutes before this photo was taken—that’s a sleepy face right there. Back to my favorite bakery! Tried something new this time, a saffron rice pudding tart. Guys. You have to go to this bakery. I have never had a “favorite bakery”. My preferred sweet treats are candy and Lucky Charms. But I will eat a PLAIN CROISSANT from this place—it’s that good. Wearing another Muji turtleneck, this one in brown (here in lighter shade), and Muji corduroy pants (similar here, can’t find ones without an elasticated waist, which mine doesn’t have), along with the Sam Edelman boots and Jones New York jacket again
Work, errands, getting nails done. Wearing old Everlane beanie (similar here), cameo necklace I asked for as a gift in high school (similar here), TSE cashmere sweater via the RealReal (similar here), Madewell pleated wool skirt (many of these online but all seem to be a size 4), maroon tights, and Bass loafers (exact ones here). This is a repeat outfit from last winter and I like it just as much this year!
I changed that evening for dinner at the Odeon—a classic Manhattan establishment where the food is also very good (I do not feel this way about, say, Minetta Tavern…) Wearing an Akris Punto wool dress via the RealReal (similar Akris wool dress in solid grey here), grandmother’s chainmail purse (here in white enamel, here in similar shape) with Clare V chainlink strap (here in tortoiseshell), tights, Sam Edelman boots again.
Time for my long overdue haircut! (This is the before picture—obviously, lol.) I loved this outfit. This kind of outfit is why winter is my favorite season. Wearing Tibi coat via Rent the Runway (exact one here on Canadian Poshmark), yet another Muji striped turtleneck (very similar here), Coach cashmere beanie (similar here), and GAP jeans, Sam Edelman boots, Jones New York jacket, thrifted chain necklaces, and Burberry vest again.
Went to a Broadway show with my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and some other relatives and family friends! Everything in this outfit is a repeat from earlier in the post except for the thrifted faux fur coat (similar here).
If you missed the previous installments of weekly outfit posts, you can find them here!
I’m saying surface level instead of superficial because I don’t think they’re interchangeable!
The brown on burgundy outfit, is something I wish to borrow.
Also, the apieceapart linen pants that I got in black after I saw them on you ? I have them in green too after a TRR find for 40$.
I love the oxford under the miami heat sweatshirt, great way to mix it up :)
