Trying something new this week with the photo format (coincidental timing with the publication of this article in Vogue Business)—let me know what you think! Mostly I’m getting tired of looking at my bathroom door in the background of my mirror pics, but I also think it’s useful to see the outfits all lined up.
This was the week in outfits! Some observations: I only wore two pairs of shoes (same style, different colors) and there was a lot of eyelet—four of the eight outfits included at least one eyelet item. I’m staying true to my “shirts with holes” philosophy from this post:
DAY ONE: Work, library, errands—a typical day! Wearing black Uniqlo linen t-shirt (similar here), rented Agolde jeans (exact pair secondhand here), pearl pendant (similar here), Roxanne Assoulin necklace (similar Roxanne Assoulin necklaces here and here), and black Melissa sandals (secondhand in black glitter here).
DAY TWO: Work and a long drive. Wearing a Sea New York shirt via the RealReal (same one secondhand in different colorway here, similar vibe via secondhand Madewell here), new Melissa sandals via Melissa final sale (exact pair secondhand here), Florida Lottery baseball cap (same one here), and Apiece Apart pants purchased from Rent the Runway—here in black in a size 2, off-white in a 16, and dusty pink in a 16.
DAY THREE: Woke up at my in-laws—worked from there during the day and ate dinner and fresh watermelon outside that evening. Wearing my Florida lotto hat again, Madewell eyelet camp collar shirt (similar Madewell shirt here), rented Agolde jeans (exact pair secondhand here in a 30), and the Melissa shoes again.
DAY FOUR: Fourth of July. Not my favorite holiday (for many reasons, both superficial—couldn’t they have picked a more pleasant month to finalize things than July?—and political) but if I have time to spend with beloved friends and family, I will take it! I did feel compelled to at least make a sartorial nod towards the occasion with the red, white, and blue shirt. Wore the Agolde jeans again, black Melissa sandals again, and an old Esprit logo top (similar here). [Side note: if you like Esprit, you’ll love this joyful selection from
.] Indulged in the ultimate Americana experience with a parade, a barbecue, and a pool party! The second outfit (barefoot and bedraggled) is how I finally arrived home late that evening. I’m wearing old GAP pants (exact pair secondhand here, though I will warn you that I think I tried to purchase this exact pair several years ago and Poshmark eventually canceled the order because the seller was inactive…) and an eyelet shirt with ric rac trim from some vintage store in the East Village a long time ago (similar here).DAY FIVE: You might be thinking… “Doesn’t she have another shirt just like that?” Yes. My husband expressed interest in owning a couple more summer shirts, so I got excited and bought him this one with my sister’s Urban Outfitters discount thinking we could match. He didn’t like the low pocket (which I respect! I’m also picky) and I meant to return it, but ended up keeping it for myself. Now he’s angling to borrow it… I’m wearing it with the Apiece Apart pants, Melissa shoes, and both necklaces, along with a braided leather belt (similar here) and Florida baseball cap (similar here). Wore this to a friend of a friend’s house for dinner and watching soccer (or watching people watch soccer.)
DAY SIX: Spent most of the day at friends’ apartment to cheer on Turkey in the Euro 2024 while enjoying home-cooked Iranian food. Popped over to a tiny ice cream shop nearby during halftime for some vanilla soft serve with swirled-in Fruity Pebbles! Wearing black By Malene Birger tank top (similar here), black Melissa sandals, and rented white Thakoon eyelet skirt (similar here here and here). I’m trying to find the perfect summer skirt… this is getting there (good length, tiered silhouette) but not exactly what I’m looking for (too bright white, not a fan of the elastic waist).
DAY SEVEN: Met up with my friend Lily at the Met—we weren’t hoping to see anything in particular, mostly just wanted an inexpensive place with air-conditioning to hang out for a few hours (pay-what-you-want museums—a “summer hack” for anyone with a New York ID). We naively thought we’d just be able to wander into the Sleeping Beauties exhibit, but with a 2+ hour wait we decided just to stick to the rest of the museum. Wore an orange By Malene Birger tank top (similar here), gold Melissa sandals, Queens County Farm baseball cap (have done this workshop with my former roommates almost every year since 2015!), and a very old thrifted silk skirt (similar here, similar vibe with different floral design here).
